Tidyverse developer day is an in-person event where participants learn to contribute to tidyverse packages through hands-on coding with support from the tidyverse team and community helpers. It’s designed for anyone who wants to improve their contribution skills, from first-time contributors to experienced package developers.

The event provides a structured workflow for making pull requests, including pre-tagged issues suitable for different skill levels, on-site guidance for overcoming technical obstacles, and same-day code review from the tidyverse team. Participants work on real issues in tidyverse packages—ranging from documentation improvements to bug fixes and new features—while building skills in collaborative open source development. The nominal registration fee and limited attendance ensure a good ratio of helpers to participants.
